2017 Conservationist of the Year

2017 Conservationist of the Year

July 20, 2017 by

Each year, the West Otter Tail Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) recognizes individuals or organizations for outstanding accomplishments in implementing conservation practices that improve and protect Otter Tail County’s natural resources. This year’s Outstanding Conservationist is Neal Johnson of Fergus Falls. Neal operates a grain farm northwest of Fergus Falls, raising corn and soybeans. Neal utilizes no-till and reduced tillage on nearly 1,000 acres. Over the past year, Neal has installed 2 water and sediment control basins to reduce stormwater runoff in his fields. He has also been proactively working with the SWCD to ensure the land he owns and operates is compliant with MN’s buffer law through the Otter Tail County Buffer Initiative. In addition, he is working with the SWCD to become a certified producer in the Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certification Program. Congratulations to Neal Johnson for your outstanding conservation efforts.
